ABOUT
Kevin Knowles is an award-winning pianist, collaborator, and educator recognized for his refined artistry and expressive tone. Critics have praised him as a “pianist with strong technique” (Miami Classical Review) and noted his ability to “coax a uniquely beautiful tone from the piano” (San Bernardino Sun; The Redlands Bulletin). Knowles has appeared as a soloist with ensembles including the Frost Symphony Orchestra and Spokane Symphony, and has worked with distinguished conductors such as Maxim Eshkenazy, Jorge Luis Uzcategui and Stéphane Denève. His performances have taken him to major venues across the United States such as the Redlands Bowl and Carnegie Hall. A prizewinner of several international competitions, Knowles earned First Prize at the Walter Knabe International Piano Competition and the Redlands Bowl Young Artist International Competition, and was a laureate of the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition. He has also participated in prominent festivals such as Festival Napa Valley, the Colburn Academy Young Artist Festival, the Frost Chopin Academy and Festival, and the International Keyboard Odyssiad Festival. An active chamber musician and collaborator, Knowles has performed with artists such as French Hornist Richard Todd, soprano Jeanette Thompson and violist Jodi Levitz. He has also contributed to innovative interdisciplinary performances as a pianist for the Colburn Contemporary Dance series. Deeply committed to education, Knowles has taught students ranging from young beginners to university-level musicians. He currently serves as a teaching assistant at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, working with the Frost Opera Theater, and is also an instructor in the Frost Preparatory Program as well as the ToneBase online platform. Knowles earned both his Bachelor of Music (2021) and Master of Music (2023) degrees from the Frost School of Music, where he studied with Santiago Rodriguez and Naoko Takao. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree under the continued mentorship of Dr. Takao.
